Classroom Description.

Room 6 is a class with a range of abilities, passions and talents. I have a high concentration of Samoan and other pacific island students in my class. One focus this year has been to ensure they are aware of their cultural identity in relation to their samoan culture bringing their samoan language alive. We have started this year talking about expectations of learning in our class, and how they will be successful in reaching their learning goals. My students will understand the definition of what it means to be transformed as a person spiritually, physically, Mentally as well as transforming their cultural identity as a Samoan and a New Zealand Samoan. What I mean is that they are transforming their New Zealand Culture as well where they are learning the Te Reo Maori Language and understanding Maori cultural protocols and in their Samoan Culture. I understand that transformation does not just happen the person needs to be actively involved in the process to transformation. Understanding their attitudes towards learning is important because what they put in is what they get out. Transforming fixed mindset to growth mindset where my students are looking beyond what they can do and pushing their motivations to greater heights. I really want to help my students see that vision because only then they can be motivated to learn and put in the hard work. “They need to picture themselves achieving their vision”. We have been working together to collate our classroom norms so that they understand how they need to behave and learn in our learning environment. There are some fantastic, bright and interesting personalities and some that i am looking forward to working with and seeing grow and develop into lifelong learners. Room 6 understands that we are all on this learning journey together and that no one gets left behind. We are one big and unique family that will work together to aim high to achieve our goals. It is an honour to have the opportunity to teach room 6 this year I am looking forward to Seeking the heights with my lovely students this year.
